Here Comes Summer Vacation!

Yesterday was the last day of school and now the Yodeling Adventure can begin.  Gee...I'd better start packing.  Here's the run-down of what we'll be doing:

Lucerne, Switzerland

This is our first stop visiting the mountains and enjoying the scenery.  The Yodeling Festival will be in the nearby village of Dagmersellen, about 30 minutes away by train. We're staying one extra day in Lucerne after the yodeling festival to do some sight-seeing.

Cremona, Italy

Next on the tour is a short stay in Northern Italy in the town of Cremona.  This is the birthplace of the Amati and Stadivari violins from the 1600s.  We'll visit the museum and eat lots of gelato, I'm sure.

Venice, Italy

What's a visit to Italy without a gondola ride and more gelato?

Slovenia

We'll spend that last week of the trip visiting the Julian Alps.  We've rented a car (oh no!) and plan to drive through the mountains.  We'll cross the border between Gorizia (Italy) and Nova Gorica (Slovenia) then drive to Kanal, where my Grandmother lived during her childhood. Next, it's on to the Triglav National Preserve and a stay in the Bohinj region.  This will be our "home" as we travel  to Lake Bled and other beautiful and fascinating spots in Slovenia.  Our final stop will be in the capital, Ljubljana.  That's how our cat, Lju (lou) got is name.
